Emotional Healing – Hope With EFT Tapping For Purging Childhood Emotional Problems

3 min read

I was acutely aware that I had “issues” from childhood trauma when I started my inner healing work. But what was I suppose to do now? Traditional psychotherapy did not work for me. Talking about my problems or expressing my feelings did not exactly pacify the memories of my hurtful childhood. Furthermore, the amount of money spent in therapy did not yield the inner joy and peace I was yearning for.

After several attempts with “talk” therapy, I abandoned it. I tried several alternative therapies or mind body healing approaches in attempts to lift myself from despair. One of the first workshops I signed up for was a meditation class. Unfortunately, meditation was too difficult for me. I just could not sit still. My mind was like a T.V. where someone else held the remote control flipping through the channels every three seconds. I did not understand why I could not close my eyes and enjoy some peace and quiet? What was bothering me so much that caused me such mental perturbation? I did not have an answer but I kept looking.

During my search, the first effective emotional healing technique I encountered was called Emotional Freedom Technique which is commonly referred to as “EFT” or “EFT tapping”. EFT is a variation of Dr. Roger Callahan’s Thought Field Therapy technique. Basically, the EFT procedure involves multiple taps with your fingers on specific meridian or acupressure points on your body. And as you gently tap (about seven times) on each point, you repeat pertinent phrases or statements regarding your particular issue. I know, it sounds strange. You just have to experience EFT a few times in order to evaluate it properly.

What really impressed me about the whole EFT process was the emphasis on getting to the root cause of the problem and not treating the symptoms. For example, if you have a habit of eating food when you are stressed, that is a symptom. Tapping about your weight or eating habits is just useless and futile. You have to become a sleuth and figure out why food is your comforting friend. And, then, figure out what emotional pain you are trying to muffle with food. At this point, I started to have some hope with EFT and I ended up taking three EFT workshops to learn more about it.

My hope led me to become a huge proponent of EFT tapping and other energy healing techniques such as Thought Field Therapy (TFT), The Emotion Code developed Dr. Bradley Nelson, and the Tapas Fleming Acupressure Technique (TAT). These techniques are self help tools. Once you learn it, you do not need a practitioner unless you are stuck. However, it does require some effort and patience. You, also, have to make a commitment and keep doing it on consistent basis. I have benefited tremendously from my persistence with EFT tapping. The results were gradual but I steadily became less moody and agitated. I increasingly enjoyed my time of solitude and I got some quality work done. Most of all, I can hear myself think and that is priceless!

When you decide to use EFT, the single most important tip on how to get the best results is to address your resistance. If you are stuck or not getting the results you expected, assume that you have some unconscious (and I do stress unconscious) resistance. It can manifest itself in the form of a self sabotaging belief such as “I do not deserve to be thin and beautiful” or “Who will I be, if I am not fat Sally?” For those of you in the know know exactly what I am talking about. Those of you who do not get it yet, it is a learning process where you just have to go through. And you will not know unless you start the self healing process and give EFT tapping a try.

Be well.
